Out of Stone – Outlander: Blood of My Blood Ep 4 Review

Wow, I cannot believe our Claire was robbed of such wonderful parents due to Craigh na Dun.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood Episode 4 Review

Instead, we have Claire growing up relatively alone (aside from Uncle Lamb) with Henry emotionally broken after the war and having to fight rogue Highlanders in stressful PTSD triggering situations, and Julia (reluctantly) sleeping with an old man who sits on the toilet and does not wash his hands (or bathe) way too often.

Speaking of which, I cannot believe that Lord Lovat actually bought that he got Julia pregnant after his month’s long absence. I mean, is this man that desperate for another bastard son? (or even worse, a bastard daughter?)

Mistress Porter seems like she is going to be an even bigger problem after the baby reveal. She may believe that Julia is trying to take her “spot” in the household despite Lovat’s staff being no more in number than the five fingers on my hand.

And if she wasn’t such a jealous hen and actually listened to what Julia was saying to her even half of the time, Mistress Porter would know that the baby is Julia’s husbands. That Julia was kidnapped, sold into slavery, and that if Mistress Porter and Lord Lovat’s one bodyguard would just let her leave, she would stay away from Castle Leathers for good.

Based on what Ms. Fitzgibbons said at Castle Leoch, it’s common knowledge that despite his loss of status, Lord Lovat just doesn’t treat his servants well. And according to Colum, Castle Leoch is broke and they are still treating their people well, and care for their servants in an appropriate manner.

I like the scene of Brian volunteering to take Julia to the apothecary, and he all but basically comes out and tells her that he’s not a fool, and that he realizes what she did to get away from his father. Even funnier was the underlying context of Julia basically telling Brian that he seems like a decent guy, and questions why he is staying around his a-hole father and living in a diminished and dilapidated castle?

Julia and Brian are a duo I didn't expect to like so much together on screen

Brian gives a similar speech as Jamie – only while Jamie was a wanted man and financially destitute, Brian is a bastard living in an abode that appears more than visibly destitute.

Also, can we throw our good man Henry some breadcrumbs over his missing wife? Not that I don’t enjoy Ellen and Brian, but I find Claire’s parents story much more compelling. Especially since again, we never know much about them in the original Outlander series aside from the fact that they were dead, and that Claire had no other family.

Julia and Henry have a strong relationship

I am so invested in what will become of Julia and Henry’s baby, and if it does tie into the Pocock siblings somehow in Outlander Season 7 and Outlander the Final Season.

It was also so meta watching Lord Lovat scheme to ruin Ellen’s reputation to stop the Grant marriage, with Brian silently wanting the engagement called off but not Ellen ruined, and Murtagh delusionally thinking Ellen’s reputation being ruined would give him a chance with a highly sought after woman (and known beauty of her time) who Murtagh canonically has never even spoken to is wild.

Then the fact that Brian enlists Julia’s help to meet with Ellen, with all three of them not knowing they are securing their future bloodlines and that their children are literal soulmates was amazing to see.

But, tell me your thoughts: are the Grant family acting like the mob crime family of their century? Why can’t Murtagh or Mistress Porter properly read the room?
