Regent – House of the Dragon S2 Ep 5 Review

Regent – House of the Dragon S2 Ep 5 Review

Aemond is going on a power trip to soothe his bruised ego and Alicent is an idiot who realized she lost power too late.

So much has changed since Otto Hightower was banished from court (again).

Alicent Realized her Power Too Late

I’m going to need Alicent Hightower to get it together.

Alicent loses power within the small council

I mean, why on earth would she believe that Aegon’s small council would permit her to rule as Queen Regent when the whole premise of their coup (and subsequent war) was the hegemony of male succession and absolute rule over any female heirs?

Besides, Alicent doesn’t even have any royal blood. She is simply a daughter of House Hightower continually used in the schemes and machinations of her father’s thirst for the throne and power. And as much as I don’t care for Aemond – it would literally make zero sense for Prince Aemond’s regency to be shunned in favor of his mother to rule instead. Especially since he is an adult grown in accordance to Westerosi law.

I don’t like Aemond but he technically is Aegon’s heir after the death of his only son

It’s almost like what Rhaenys and Rhaenyra were trying to tell Alicent years ago up until that very moment finally sunk in – albeit far too late.

Shoot, Rhaenys told Alicent at the moment of Viserys death that Alicent does not seek salvation, but rather a window in her (bird) cage while Alicent vehemently denied the right for females to rule in Westeros.

“Gently” women like herself and Rhaenys were expected to guide rulers like Aegon and Aemond, but now Alicent fully realizes the extent both King Viserys and Lord Corlys (the head of the wealthiest house in Westeros and Commander of the largest navy in the 6 Kingdoms) were willing to allow female rulership and inheritance to be possible in Westeros.

Rhaenyra could have sat the throne, Lady Jeyne would still be in the Eyrie, Rhaenys would most likely have been named Hand of the Queen if Corlys wasn’t,  and Alicent could have kept a position of power at court by Rhaenyra’s side.

Instead, Alicent had to make all of the same mistakes Rhaenyra only made once as a teenager (i.e. sleeping with Criston Cole and taking moon tea to prevent “unintended consequences”) and also be used and degraded by Lord Feet Pics of House Strong himself Larys just to realize like her father did – “Hey, you know I had it pretty good when King Viserys was still alive” a little too late for her actions to still be effective in the realm.

Daemon Loses Control at Harrenhal

Why, oh why is Daemon still remaining at Harrenhal?

Daemon needs to leave Harrenhal asap

All it’s done is diminish his character, as we now have an unnecessary lovemaking hallucination between his late brother’s wife Aemma and now even his own mother that he never knew. On top of this depravity, Daemon literally lost the support of the Riverland folks due to his scheme with the Blackwoods backfiring and pissing more than the Brackens off.

I saw a theory online ( more than one, actually) that Daemon was drinking or digesting weirwood paste courtesy of Harrenhal’s local woods witch Alys Rivers.

Only problem is, Daemon at this point seems 100% compliant with any sort of mystery foods or beverages specifically Alys brings him, along with allowing her to touch him.

Regent – House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 5 Review

Is this the influence of the Old Gods through the weirwood tree network sabotaging the Targaryen dynasty via Daemon’s erratic actions?

Will Corlys find an heir to his house that won’t die the glorious death of a dragon rider?

I’m gonna need Corlys to get it together, as well
