Smallfolk – House of the Dragon S2 Ep 6 Review

You know, I don’t know if the young Lord Oscar Tully is going to notice the correlation between Daemon telling him to smother his grandsire in his sleep and Alys Rivers of Harrenhal – the castle Daemon “took over” visiting Riverrun and old man Grover Tully suddenly winding up dead – but I’m sure anybody else with a pulse does.

Alys Rivers Kills Grover Tully

The people of the Riverlands already don’t like Daemon – something he seems completely oblivious to. I don’t know if it’s sheer arrogance or his pride as a Targaryen Prince who views anybody without Valyrian blood as less than, but Daemon really needs a reality check.

One he doesn’t seem to be getting at Harrenhal.

Daemon needs a reality check – the Riverland folk don’t like him and are not intimidated by his dragon

I know Alys is supposed to be giving Daemon a “spiritual awakening” by drugging him with weirwood paste and nightmares, but it doesn’t seem to be giving Daemon any sort of clarity. If anything, aside from the Viserys scenes this whole ordeal has made Daemon’s character seem depraved and incompetent.

This doesn’t even feel like the same character that tied up the war with the crabfeeder by singlehandedly going on a suicide mission just because he didn’t want help from his brother.

I keep wondering at this point if Alys is even real or not. I know she exists, but is she actually there right now or at Riverrun and Daemon is talking to a literal barn owl?

I’ve been hearing chatter that Showrunner Ryan Condal didn’t like how receptive the audience was to Daemon’s character in Season one, and this is why he’s been stuck at Harrenhal committing treason and making bad decisions all season long. I’m beginning to wonder if there is some truth to that or not.

Alicent is Attacked by the Smallfolk

Speaking of bad decisions, let’s talk about Alicent while we’re on the topic. Can you believe the irony of Alicent receiving a cut on her wrist in almost exactly the same place as the one she gave Rhaenyra last season?

Alicent receives the same cut she gave Rhaenyra last season from the smallfolk in King’s Landing

I don’t know if this was intentional or not, but it seems like karma is coming quickly for Alicent and the Greens.

As always, I felt bad for Helaena during this whole ordeal. She never does anything to deserve the terrible things happening to her because of the actions of those around her- those of whom it doesn’t even seem like Helaena likes.

Everytime Helaena leaves the castle she gets attacked or swarmed by the smallfolk

Aegon and Helaena barely speak or interact outside of marital duties, Helaena doesn’t speak to Aemond in the show, and she always shrugged away from Alicent’s touch – even as a child.

I think the only person Helaena liked and respected was her father, King Viserys – and now he’s dead and gone.

Rhaenyra and Mysaria Hook Up

I did not see this coming.

Honesty,  it appeared that Mysaria initially hated Rhaenyra and wanted nothing but to flee Dragonstone and start over in Essos.

I know Mysaria opened up to Rhaenyra and told her the backstory of how she received her neck scar ( and why Daemon’s ‘pregnancy jape’ offended her so many years ago) but I didn’t think that admiration would translate into a physical attraction.

Anybody else feel like Mysaria has some grand scheme up her sleeves?

Plus, it’s a little weird since we don’t know Mysaria’s age and Rhaenyra met Mysaria when the former was still a teenager. Also, Mysaria slept with Daemon and now Mysaria also wants to go for his niece?

I guess Mysaria can be considered a certified dragonrider at this point. She should even be with the dragon tamers underneath Dragonstone walking around with a wooden stick – it seems like they would listen to her.

Seasmoke Claims Addam of Hull

Just to touch on this before finishing up, Seasmoke claiming Addam reminded me of a wild pokemom encounter. Only this time, Seasmoke was the trainer and Addam was the pokemom he had been stalking for quite some time.

I don’t know why Rhaenyra thought Ser Darklyn could do it. It is an interesting theory that later proves to be true with Addam (and the other dragonseeds) but why on earth did this guy act like he was afraid until the very end?

Ser Darklyn didn’t even look right approaching Seasmoke in full Westerosi armour with a gentle hand on sword. Then, to make matters worse he prematurely celebrated “claiming” the dragon without even mounting it. I know Seasmoke was most likely trolling to begin with, but I think Ser Darklyn made matters worse by celebrating early and most likely offending the dragon.

I guess we know for sure that Laenor Velaryon is officially dead now, since dragons cannot have another rider once bonded. I wonder if Laenor died in battle, or if somebody kidnapped him for a secret blood magic ritual a la cutting off Varys’ manhood in Game of Thrones.

Essos might be more accepting of his lifestyle, but it was also far more dangerous for Laenor simply because of who he was – his blood lineage.  Magic is still alive in Essos, and it’s slowly starting to creep back even more into Westeros just like times of old…

(I have the Archmaester Marwyn burning a glass candle in mind as I write this)

But, tell me your thoughts.

Smallfolk – House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 6 Review

Do you think that realistically, Ser Darklyn ever stood a chance at claiming Seasmoke?

Why is Mysaria suddenly attracted to Rhaenyra?

Will Daemon ever escape Harrenhal?
